The history of Indo-Pak is furnished with the persons who thought and worked for the cause of the down trodden Muslims of India. The Muslims under the British Empire were living a dejected life after the unsuccessful War of Independence against the British which brought chastisements on them especially in the key areas of life i.e. education, employment, finance and trade. They were doomed to be the Koolies, messengers and Cowkidars according to William Hunter, the person who researched the reasons of Muslims’ unrest in India.
Sayed Ameer Ali (the Fellow at Calcatta University and a Judge in Calcatta High Court) is one of them who came forward for the redemption of the Indian Muslims from the abysmal darkness. He laid the foundations of Central National Mohammadan Association in Calcutta in 1877 and became the first Muslim premier to provide a platform for the Muslims.
The manifestation of Central National Mohammadan Association was that the Muslims should be on good terms with the British to avail the benefits granted by then as they were feeble in their economy, education and every other domain of life. The Association also emphasized on the modernization of the Muslims instead of keeping themselves stuck to the rigid grounds. Syed Ameer Ali wins all the credit of enlightening the Muslims in such a phase of history when the foreign education was considered a sin by the Muslims in a reaction to the British policies.
