The Battle of Ghagra is one of those battles which helped Mughals establish their statute over India. Babur had to combat two major forces in India: one was the Rajput Lords and the other was the Lodhi Empire. He defeated the Madini Rao, the Rajput Chief in 1528 and occupied Chanderi.
Prior to this, he had won against Ibrahim Lodhi in 1526 and won against Rana Sanga of Mewar in 1527. In 1529, he gained a decisive victory over Mehmud Lodhi, the head of Afghan chiefs in the Battle of Ghagra, Varanasi. These three major battles made the very foundation of the Mughal Empire in India
