Punjab is one of the province of Pakistan in which there is a beautiful city Rawalpindi which is locally recognized as Pindi. The city is located near the capital of Pakistan which is Islamabad and it is in the Potohar Region. The city was a small city with a population of 180, 000 even Hyderabad and Multan were larger than Rawalpindi but after the creation of Islamabad the economy and population of Rawalpindi boosted and made it the Pakistan’s fourth largest city. The geographical location of Rawalpindi makes it a stop for tourist who desires to travel to the northern areas. Several industries and factories are situated in Rawalpindi the international airport of Islamabad known as Benazir Bhutto international airport is actually located in Rawalpindi which provides service to both cities.

Rawalpindi exists for thousands of years and Buddhist establishment in this city can be recognized by the materials found at the site. At the end of 1800s Rawalpindi became the British Raj’s most important cantonment. The Rawalpindi military division and northern command’s winter headquarter was Rawalpindi in 1901. Liaquat Bagh Park of Rawalpindi is the place where in 1951 it was first seen the assassination of Liaquat Ali Khan who was the first prime minister of Pakistan. Many of the social events and political events occur on the famous Murree road. Murree road and Grand Trunk Road are the two main roads of Rawalpindi. Grand Trunk Road which is known as Mall run from east to west and this roads run through cantonment.

Pakistan Army and Air force has Rawalpindi as their headquarters. The rapidly developed city has attracted many tourists as there are good restaurants, hotels, clubs and parks. Rawalpindi is also known as the twin of Islamabad the capital city of Pakistan. The city is famous for the bazaars of which the most attracted one is The Raja Bazaar. This is bazaar is well like by tourists either domestic or foreigners. Other Bazaars of this old city are Kashmiri Bazaar, Moti Bazaar and Saddar Bazaar. There is another Bazaar of Rawalpindi which is famous for its Silver Jewelry, copperware, brass and beaten gold.

Other famous place of the old city is the Ayub National park which is the biggest park of Rawalpindi and covers almost 2300 acres. The location of this park is beyond the old residency on Jhelum road. This park has the facility of boating, play land, an aquarium and a garden restaurant. Near the Ayub National park there is the one of the oldest golf club of Pakistan which was built in 1926. The gold course was founded in 1885 and was been a nine hold course but now it has 27 holes. This golf club is now one of the famous place of Rawalpindi and a prominent tourist attraction.

Rawalpindi is one of the cities of Pakistan which has increased tourism in Pakistan. Not only domestic tourist but also international tourist enjoy on the land of Rawalpindi. The way of Grand Trunk Road which leads to Lahore has a Rawat Fort which is 17km away from Rawalpindi. The fort was built in 16th century by Gakhars who were the Potohar plateau’s fiercely independent tribe. The fort has a grave of Sultan Sarang Khan who was the chief of Gakhar. There is another interesting fort which is also located on Grand Trunk Road towards the city of Peshawar. The fort is on an hour drive away from Rawalpindi and is known as Attock Fort. The fort is easily visible and is an interesting Fort. Other interesting Forts are Pharwala Fort and Rohtas Fort.
