ICI stands for Imperial Chemical Industries, which is situated in Karachi, Pakistan. In 1952 in Pakistan it was established as Pakistan Limited Company. On January 2008, Akzonoble get hold of ICI Pakistan. Within Akzonoble, it was operated individually and it was known as Chemicals Pakistan due to its high quality range of chemicals.
The Khewra Soda Ash Company is a precursor of ICI. In 1944, a system of manufacturing facility was setup as Soda Ash in Khewra, which has minimum capacity of 18,000 tones per annum and then after the successful set up of Soda Ash this facility was placed next to the salt range as lime stone and rock salt. For manufacturing, two raw material keys were available in great quantity. A large number of businesses and services are operated by ICI in Pakistan which includes Textiles, Agriculture, Glass, Livestock, Automobile, Construction, Fertilizer, Chemical, Rubber, Cement, Footwear, Food, Detergents, Beverages and Leather. Five businesses of ICI Pakistan which produce and put up for sale a variety of industrial and consumer products that are Soda Ash, Life Sciences, Polyester, Chemicals and Paints.
ICI Pakistan Limited established a PTA manufacturing facility at Port Qasim near Karachi, in 1995 by investing USD 490 million which was commissioned in 1998. This company is counted amongst the largest companies in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi which produce an amount of Rs 1.39 billion. Round about 1,294 permanent employees serve this company and the same ratio of people give services through contractual planning.
ICI Pakistan invested 12,000 tones per annum in Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) technology and its commissioned was gained in 1982 in Sheikhupura a city of Pakistan that is near Lahore. In1944, Soda Ash plant commercial production was begun, due to the market demand its capacity has been increased through expansion and its total capacity is 350,000 tons and Soda Ash by product is Sodium bicarbonate, it also produces dense ash which is very important in glass making.
ICI Pakistan also deals with paint business which includes decorative, industry and refinishes segments. Afghanistan and Middle East market also import these paints. Animal health, Seeds and Pharmaceuticals are the three divisions which Life Sciences business consists of and on the other hand ICI Pakistan Chemical business consists of General Chemicals and Specialty Chemicals.
