Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is known to be one of the greatest singers sub-continent has ever known. The early start of Nusrat was from Qawwali style of singing. He is also known as Shahenshah-e-Qawwali.
Nusrat was born in Faisalabad Pakistan and gave his first performance at just 16 years of age. It goes without saying that Nusrat struggled very hard in early days of life and it was difficult for him to make a name and get going. However, with the passage of time he became really successful. His first major success was signing up with Oriental Star Agencies (OSA), Birmingham, UK. He later worked for different movies and albums in many countries including the US, Japan, Europe, Pakistan, and India. His ability to mix genres of Eastern and Western music made him an international artist. Nusrat is known to have worked with some of the leading composers in the western world like Peter Gabriel and Michael Brook.
The ability of Nusrat to fit into any kind of music and sing was something no other artist was successfully able to do. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan gave some evergreen hits to the Pakistani music like Ali Da Malang, Dam Mast Qalandar, Piya Ghar Aya, and many more. Nusrat had a very firm grip on the sur and his Qawwalis are still listened all over the world. Although Nusrat’s start was purely from the Qawwali music but he then entered into the India film industry as well by offering background vocals. Two of the bollywood movies “Aur Piyar Ho Gaya” and “Kachay Dhagay” each had a song of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, now a world famous singer singing many songs for different movies is one of the students and newphew of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan among many others.
