Mangoes have always been a favorite fruit due to its rich taste, as it is very juicy and pulpy. In Pakistan, mangoes are cultivated in a large amount and are found in a variety in our country. Pakistan exports a large amount of mangoes to many countries. Mangoes in Pakistan are produced in Saraiki Belt, Multan and Sahiwal. Among all species Sindhri mangoes have gained a significant importance. Sindhri mango is a leading variety of Sindh province of Pakistan and is found in abundance there. These mangoes are originated from Mir Pur Khaas that is in Sindh. This mango is one of its kinds.
As mangoes are renowned as “King of the fruits” correspondingly Sindhri is known to be “The king of Mango”. It is also the national fruit of our country because these mangoes are on peak in Pakistan. Sindhri was named by Din Muhammad Junejo he was the father of late Prime Minister Muhammad Khan Junejo. Din Muhammad Junejo brought Sindhri from Bombay and then cultivated in Sindhri. Sindhri mangoes come from the land called Mehran and so it reflects the manifestation of the people that sow it and take good care of it and pluck them off trees. These mangoes are wrapped in hay shreds till they become vibrant yellow from green.
Its season start from mid-May and ends in mid of June. It is ovalish long and mostly occupied in big size. Its length varies till 15cm and breadth is 8cm and thickness varies till 7.4cm. Sindhri mango weighs about 14.0 oz. Its base is obliquely rounded and has no cavity. Its shoulders are ventral, rising and round and has dorsal ending in a curve. The skin color of Sindhri mango is lemon yellow when ripened. Its exterior is smooth. The color of its pulp is yellowish cadium and has fine texture. These mangoes are firm fibreless. The stone of Sindhri mango is of medium size and has pleasant aromatic flavor. It tastes very sugary.
It is commonly said that “The hotter the summer the sweeter the Sindhri”. It is the famous variety of Pakistan and has the most exceptional taste among all the mangoes of the world. If someone tries it once they end up yearning for more. A Sindhri mango does not contain irritating fibers. It can be eaten in so many forms one can cube it, slice it or just blend it to enjoy its deliciousness.
