Khwaja Parvez, a versatile personality, an astonishing character in Pakistani film industry who was a writer, journalist, director, actor & above all, a famous poet and one of the most popular lyricist in Pakistan at the same time. His real name was Khawaja Ghulam Mohiuddin but as per industry’s fashion, he adopted screen name Khuwaja Parvez
He was born in Amritsar (India) in 1930 and migrated to Lahore after partition of India & Pakistan. He chose Gawal Mandi to settle in Pakistan and ever until he passed away he stays there until 2011, June 20th and the day was Monday. This was the day when he passed away in Mayo Hospital and his relation with Gawal Mandi ended. He left behind his 11 kids & 2 widows. According to critics and other poets, he was one of the most important lyricists in Pakistani Film industry known as Lollywood.
Khuwaja Parvez did his F.A from MAO College Lahore and later moved to Dayal Singh College. According to him, he stayed for 3 years in 3rd year but could not pass it so he gave up ultimately. In Dayal Singh College, he met son of prominent director Wali who helped him to become assistant of his father. Later he moved with music composer Saifuddin who was working for renowned film director Shebab Karmani and there he got a chance to write down his first song for Diljeet Mirza’s film. His first song was “Tum hee ho mehbub meray”, for the film Aaina in 1958.
He had written almost 5000 songs for Queen of Melody Late Madam Noor Jahan, which includes hundreds of mega hits. Along with that, he also wrote a good number of hit Lyrics for Late Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
He also wrote lyrics for 6-7 Indian films as well including “Kaash Aap Hamarey Hotay”.
Keeping in view of his hard work & hits given to industry, he has been awarded thousands of awards. According to facts, there was no such category in which he was not nominated & elected for award in Pakistan, including National & Local awards the most Highlighted in which is Poet of the Century by Ministry of Culture Govt. of Pakistan.
He always used to say that among all the songs which he wrote, he does not consider any as his identity mark, to him Best has yet to come.
As a journalist, he also wrote columns for a number of dailies including “Khabrain”, “Pakistan”, “Jinnah”, “Ehsas”. His regular column was published in Daily Khabrain about politics & film Issues.
He has been a member of censor board for a small period of time. He put a ban on a film named “dulhan ek raat ki” but the film was later released form Islamabad under some other title. After this incident, he left the membership of censor board.
As a poet, his identity is not only as a lyricist but he also used to write mystic poetries and written several Naats as well
One of his famous Naat is:
Jis dil mei Muhammad ki muhabat nhi hoti, Iss per Allah ki rehmat nhi hoti
This contribution was also been a part of Urdu curriculum as well.
He loved to work with all singers but as per him he felt honored to have singers like Late Madam Noor Jahan & Late Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
He never took Islah (Correction in poetry from any senior), as he believed that it is something purely God gifted and he never felt a need of any such person. However, he had the inspirations like Qateel Shifai, Ahmed Faraz, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi and other senior poets.
He has been charged for writing some inappropriate songs for Pakistani cinema but he admitted in his life that he wrote few on Producer’s demand.
He met famous Indian Director and writer Wali sahib during his college life who offered him to act and he acted in his film “Guddi Gudda”. He then assisted him in his direction for about 2 years.
As a writer, he wrote dialogues and songs for one of the finest directors in Pakistan Sayeed Suleman’s AKA S. Suleman film “Yar Dost”.
After that, he wrote scripts of up to ten films from which famous were:
- Janab-e-Aali
- Raja Rani
- Prince
His versatility took him towards Direction and this time it was theater. He directed a number of theatre plays as well. His famous plays include:

- Sab se Bara Rupiya
- Payal Bajey Chan Chan Chan
